Michelle Obama, Jwriter4, and others alike are WRONG!

I have to start by saying that I agree with about 85% of what you say. Most of our differences reside mostly on the issue of religion, which I don't plan to delve into too deeply here. Except to say, in my own defense, that I am in no way a "religious" person, but rather a faithful one. I do believe in God, but do not in any way subscribe to the modern christian church and/or denominations for many reasons. That being said, this message is in response to your video about Barrack winning the election. I'm glad to hear that there are black Americans like yourself who realize that these doors of opportunity have been here for a very long time. And that the concept of "the white man trying to keep the black man down" is in arguably false, and unfounded.I voted for the independent nominees this election, as I have always done my entire adult life. Mostly because I'm tired of the same old partisan games and lies. I'm tired of hearing people like Barrack Obama and John McCain talk about bi-partisanship when we all know that in the end, both of these guys are pawns for their parties and whatever twisted agenda those parties may have. However, I still respect both men for the parts they have both played in our government over the courses of their careers. So, im wondering why you don't have the same respect? Why are you so incredibly condescending of John's speech, and of Sarah Palin's mere presence on the stage, while John graciously supported Barracks victory, and pledged to support him and work with him to fix this broken country that he has been left in charge of? Can you not find one fucking decent thing to say about an American hero standing in front of millions of Americans accepting defeat and giving his SUPPORT to his opponent? I found John's speech to be refreshing as opposed to my expectation. I found him to be a real man. A gentleman and a patriot. And yet you talk about him like he bent over and told all of black America to kiss his ass or something. I sure would like some clarity on where all of this hate is coming from, when you seem to generally be a pretty well-balanced, well educated person.Second of all, I'm still trying to understand how people like yourself and Michelle Obama can sit there and say something like "For the first time in my life I'm proud to be an American".I heard what you said about this being based on individual experience, but that still doesn't hold much weight. I'm estimating your age to be about the same as mine, 27 or 28. So when it comes to being an American, we have experienced many of the same things. I was proud to be an American when I realized that I, a dirt-poor white boy from Alabama, could go to college for free and be whatever I wanted to be, just like my dirt-poor black friend that I grew up with. I was proud to be an American in 1996 when I watched a trembling Muhammad Ali light the Olympic Torch in Atlanta, and being given back his Gold medal that he threw away after being refused service at a restaurant because of the color of his skin. I was later proud to be an American when I saw George Bush give Ali the Medal of Freedom, for being so strong in such a terrible time and circumstance. I was proud to be an American on 9/11 when I saw those fire-fighters fearlessly running into the twin towers to save their fellow Americans, knowing that disaster was impending. I was proud to be an American in 2004 in the aftermath of the Asian Tsunamis when millions of dollars in aid, and thousands of American volunteers went into a disease and disaster ridden country to do whatever they could to help. Were you not proud to be an American on these days? Did you not experience these same things? Was your mind still closed to any good your country did at that time? Were you not proud to be an American when you realized that you had the ability and THE BLOOD-BOUGHT RIGHT to post your own beliefs, uncensored to the world on Youtube, without fear of retaliation, imprisonment, or death? It took one black man being elected President for you to be proud of the country that gave him the right to do so decades ago? What about the day he took his first seat in The House? You were not proud to be an American that day? I think it is a ridiculous and grossly inconsiderate comment to make. It shits in the face of every opportunity that has been given to you, and that you have taken advantage of. And for those like me, who are and always have been simply PROUD TO BE AMERICANS, it is sickeningly offensive. Surely, a man like yourself who has taken advantage of everything America has offered him can understand why we feel this way now. And that is the point of this message. To give you some clarity on WHY proud Americans react the way they do to incendiary comments like that.I hope this message finds you well, and with an open mind. And congratulations to you, and your African American brothers and sisters on such a monumental day. God bless you, and God bless America. Working in an environment with only guys, and being the only girl, you come to find out that there are very few sacred topics of discussion amongst men. It’s pretty much a no-holds barred environment where you can ask anything, speak of anything or admit to anything gross without being judged or embarrassed (unless of course you want to speak about your latest celebrity crush on a , in which case, good luck to you because in place of a participating audience, you will get all kinds of nega
